With a name like Mutiny On The Bounty, you might have expected a pirate-themed rock act. Lame deduction, I know, but nothing would surprise me these days.
The band has however come to us by way of Luxembourg. Yes, that booming mecca of rock music. We got our hands on the foursome’s latest track, Artefacts, which shows the band are experimenting with some imaginative new sounds.

The band are drawing comparisons with Fleet Foxes and the High Highs, and while I can’t comment on that, Let It Go has an incredibly dreamy quality that’s mellow and romantic folk at its best.
He’s riding high in the charts and in the press right now, so British singer/songwriter Conor Maynard has rewarded his fanbase with a brand new video on YouTube for a track called Drowning.
In terms of the musical Richer Scale, Maynard has the teen appeal of Justin Bieber and the sweet falsetto of Timberlake. Plus, he’s working with Timberlake’s co-conspirators Ne-Yo and Pharrell Williams, which should be a sign of pop dominance. He recently revealed in a radio interview that Pharrell had been planning to sign him to his own label before discovering Conor was already signed.
Okay, if I said these three words, what image does that conjure up? White. Muslim. Rapper.
I’m talking about this dude called Brother Ali. If you’ve heard about him before, then forgive me for raving. I just heard his latest track, Not A Day Goes By, and Ali turns all preconceptions you might have based on those three little words on their head.
The track is an intense burst of 2 and a half minutes of furious rapping, delivered at 200MPH witha healthy dose of anger and humour. The lyrics fly past at impossible speeds, and if you can catch them, they’re blunt and beautiful:

Our song of the day is The Neighbourhood‘s Female Robbery. While the name might sound all ‘friendly boys next door’, this band is as distant and mysterious as any you’re likely to hear. In fact, we’re not even sure who the line-up are.

Happy Monday, everybody! We’ve got some good news this morning in the form of a brilliant new tune from the Noisettes – Winner.
And yes, we are fighting the urge to be lazy bloggers and call this “a winner of a single”. Even though it kind of is. Winner starts off sounding like a rock anthem (that “Eagle has landed” gives us a distinctly early 80s Survivor vibe), but smoothly transforms into a disco track, but still punctuated by stabs of distorted guitar.
The band – consisting of singersinger Shingai Shoniwa, guitarist Dan Smith and drummer Jamie Morrison – have been in the US of A working hard on their as-yet-untitled third album. Winner is the first glimpse of the Noisettes’ new material.
Want to hear something absolutely mental? It’s the new song from London based duo BIGkids. Superhero, is just a brilliantly loopy track, loaded to the brim with pumping verses and distorted samples and that bounce-along-like-you’re-pissed-or-crazy chorus. It’s a glorious, rambunctious, dysfunctional anthem.
The song is accompanied by a video featuring child versions of BIGkids, aka Ben Hudson and Rosie Oddie. Now, we’ve seen popstars use child actors to portray them in the past, but never swigging tins of shandy down alleyways and brushing their gums with what is hopefully sherbet dip.
